The story
Thomas R. Kimball designed the Ivy Tower as the first of four towers planned around a new Second Church of Christ, Scientist; it was built in 1930, the rest of the plan was abandoned, and the tower was sold in 1965. The Minneapolis City Council affirmed its historic designation in 1986. After years vacant it was folded into the $88 million Hotel Ivy + Residences, which opened in 2008; the old tower holds suites, the spa and restaurants beside a new hotel tower.
