The story

Rufus Rand, a World War I aviator whose family owned the Minneapolis Gas Company, commissioned the 26-story tower from Chicago’s Holabird & Root; it was completed in 1929 with aviation-themed ornament and Oskar J. W. Hansen’s ‘Wings’ sculpture in the lobby. Known for a time as the Dain Tower, it was listed on the National Register in 1994. Maven Real Estate Partners bought it in 2017 and converted it into a hotel, which opened on 2 December 2020 in Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio.
