The story
The Tahoe House opened on C Street in 1860, soon after the Comstock’s first major silver strike, and survived the fire that destroyed much of Virginia City in 1875. It later served as a boarding house and then a museum. Crystal Bay contractor Daan Eggenberger bought the derelict building in the mid-1990s and spent more than a decade adding plumbing, electricity and private baths before it reopened around 2008. Under its current owners it had a grand reopening in early 2020.
