The story
The brick house served as the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church parsonage for nearly 70 years. In 1936 doctors Halvard Wanger and Sarah Elizabeth McFetridge bought it as their home and added the Duke Street wing for their medical offices; a plaque with their names remains on the Duke Street side. Ed and Carol Ringoot opened the inn in 1984 and named it for town founder Thomas Shepherd with his descendants’ blessing.
