The story
The Freemasons began their monumental temple opposite the Rhode Island State House in 1927, but work stopped in 1929 with the financial crash and never resumed. The empty shell stood abandoned for decades next to the Veterans Memorial Auditorium, which was finished in 1950. The temple was listed on the National Register in 1993, bought by Sage Hospitality in 2004 and opened as a hotel in June 2007.
