The story
Built in 1806, the White Hart began as a small tavern with a few rooms, and features of the original building survive in its Tap Room (inn). The 1997 NRHP nomination calls it a large rambling frame inn with origins about 1800, enlarged and altered over time, fronting Salisbury’s green. John Harney started Harney & Sons tea in the inn’s basement; his former office is now the two-bedroom John Harney Suite. After a renovation that began in 2010, the inn reopened in 2014 with 16 rooms in the main building, the Gideon Smith House and garden-side rooms.
