The story
The five-story Neoclassical fire headquarters, designed by Hans Gehrke and completed in 1929, stands on a site used by Detroit’s fire department continuously since about 1840. Its arched engine-bay portals and a DFD shield flanked by angels survive on the Larned Street front. The building is now a 100-room hotel.
