The story
Bankers Charles and Clifford Anthony built the house in 1887 as a family summer cottage with a lakeside tower, to a design by Richard Rickman of Peoria. Island contractor Patrick Doud, who also built the Governor’s Summer Residence and Stonecliffe, bought it in 1904 and converted it to a resort hotel, adding a third floor and replacing the tower with a sunroom. Jeannette Doud and her daughter Margaret ran the hotel for many years, and Margaret Doud still manages it.
