The story
The Moral Re-Armament movement bought land at Mission Point in 1951 and from 1954 built a conference center: a log-trussed theater (1954-55), the tepee-inspired Great Hall complex (1955-56) designed by William Woollett of Los Angeles, dormitories and a film studio (1959-60). The MRA deeded the property to Mackinac College, which operated 1966-70. Universal used the studio and theater to film Somewhere in Time in 1979, when the property was called the Inn on Mackinac. John Shufelt bought it in 1987 and named it Mission Point Resort; Dennert and Suzanne Ware bought it in 2014.
The ghost story
The resort's best-known ghost story, per WDIV ClickOnDetroit, is Harvey, a heartbroken man said to have died behind the property in the late 1960s and not been found for six months. Visitors to Mission Point's theater, where Harvey is said to linger, have reported being pinched or poked.
