The story
Blacksmith Robert Benjamin built a three-story Victorian house near Biddle Point in 1902-03, but his wife disliked living so close to the water and the family moved inland. Samuel Poole bought it in 1904 and turned it into the ‘Iroquois on the Beach’ hotel, and his daughter Alicia ran it from 1919. Former state trooper Sam McIntire and his wife Margaret bought it in 1954 and ran it for decades; Margaret McIntire sold it in 2020 to Jon Cotton of Grosse Pointe, a former guest. It joined Historic Hotels of America in 2023.
