The story
The four-story Chippewa Hotel was built in 1902 on Huron Street in the island’s business district. Unlike the island’s porch-fronted resort hotels, it looks like a main-street business block; its galvanized-iron front imitating concrete block was produced by Geo. L. Mesker & Co. of Evansville, Indiana, which pictured the hotel in its 1904 catalog. The hotel’s Pink Pony bar has a patio looking over the Straits of Mackinac toward Round Island.
