The story

Saltair was one of five large summer cottages built on West Street in 1887, the year after the street was laid out, and one of three designed by the Boston firm Rotch and Tilden. The inn says it was built for William and Elizabeth Rice, sold in 1896 to former Albany mayor Anthony Bleecker Banks, and bought in 1926 by Marshall Langhorne, a cousin of Lady Astor. West Street was one of the few areas spared by the 1947 fire. Matt and Kristi bought the then-vacant house in December 2005 and run it as a waterfront bed and breakfast on Frenchman Bay.
