The story
House carpenter Alden Bass built a hip-roofed Federal house on the lot between 1802 and 1805; the inn calls it the third-oldest house in Camden. By 1856 it had been remodelled into its Italianate form, probably after Dr. Jonathan Huse, one of Camden’s leading mid-19th-century physicians, acquired it. The remodelling added the entrance porch, bracketed window hoods, an upper story and the broad front gable. Several guest rooms keep original wide-plank floors.
