The story

Portland architect Francis H. Fassett designed the brick house in 1881 for Mellen E. Bolster, a dry goods merchant; the Deering Street district nomination credits the design to Fassett together with John Calvin Stevens. In 1925 the Hay & Peabody firm moved into the building and marked the occasion with a cast-iron street clock. The building changed hands several times and sat vacant and weathered by 2015. It reopened in 2017 as a 15-room hotel.
