The story
The tapestry brick and stone Gannett Building went up in 1923 in Portland’s Old Port as the home of the Portland Press Herald. In late 1947 an addition was built on the north side of the building to make room for the growing newspaper. The hotel keeps the newsroom theme: its 110 rooms are styled after 1920s writers’ offices, each with a vintage-style journalist desk.
