The story

Romaine Lowdermilk bought the land in 1909 and registered the KL Bar brand, named for his mother Katherine. He built the adobe Homestead House in 1914, took his first paying guests in 1918, and with partner Henry Warbasse built the adobe lodge in 1925; the guest ranch opened in 1926. Actor Val Kilmer lived there for a time when his family owned it in the late 1960s. After years closed, it reopened in 2018, its 100th year of hosting guests, as part of the True Ranch Collection.
