The story
Isabella Greenway, later Arizona’s first congresswoman, founded the Arizona Inn in 1930 partly to create demand for her Arizona Hut workshop, which employed disabled World War I veterans. Tucson architect Merritt Starkweather designed the pink stucco complex of casitas and villas set in gardens. The Rockefellers, Roosevelts and Kennedys stayed there. It was listed on the National Register in 1988 and remains locally run.
