The story
The National Register nomination describes the inn as the former Reed House and Hotel Melendy: a c.1840 gable-front Greek Revival main block with early-20th-century additions. The inn says the building began as a farmhouse and was converted to an inn in the 1890s, and that it has hosted weddings, dances, concerts and plays for more than a century. It sits at the foot of Smugglers’ Notch, the mountain pass to Stowe.
