The story

Peter C. Lovejoy built the property in 1833 and later traded it to Stillman Churchill, who added brick wings, a dance hall and a double porch and named it Mansfield House. It later operated as the Brick Hotel and took its present name in 1893 under Mark C. Lovejoy. The Depot Street building was added in 1897 for the Mount Mansfield Electric Railroad. Marvin Gameroff bought the inn in 1982, and restoration began in 1983 for its 150th anniversary.

The ghost story

The inn tells the legend of Boots Berry, a horseman born in Room 302 in 1840, whose ghost is said to tap-dance across the roof during winter storms.
