The story
Captain Israel Richardson built one of Woodstock’s first lodgings in 1793, later known as the Eagle Hotel. In 1892 a new Woodstock Inn with more than 100 rooms and a 400-foot verandah replaced it. Laurance Rockefeller bought the aging inn (1967, per the resort), had it torn down, and opened the present inn on November 23, 1969. The resort has been expanded four times since, including a 10,000-square-foot spa added in 2010.
