The story
The building served as a warehouse for the Portsmouth Brewing Company, which traced its roots to the Harris & Mathes Company of 1871 and closed in 1917 with Prohibition. The longtime Bow Street Inn became the Ale House Inn in January 2009 after a gut renovation that kept only the brick walls. Lark Hotels relaunched it in 2025 as The Bow Hotel, a 10-room loft-style hotel with exposed brick and old timber beams, above the Seacoast Repertory Theatre.
