The story
The Harries Building rose at First and Main streets in 1925-26 on a lot first platted in 1809 by Dayton founder Daniel Cooper, designed by Frank Hill Smith Inc. with input from a Chicago building-managers’ board. It later took the name Barclay Building. First Hospitality converted it into a 118-room hotel that opened in February 2025, with Dayton inventions, an NCR cash register and framed patents in the design.
