The story
Meade and Hamilton designed the 12-story Gothic-detailed clubhouse for the Cleveland Club, which opened in June 1930 with a swimming pool, bowling alley and ballrooms. The club went bankrupt in 1931, and in 1939 new owner Torrance Melrose converted the upper floors into the 200-room Tudor Arms Hotel while the club kept the lower five floors. The hotel closed in 1963; the building later served Case Western Reserve students and, from 1971 to 2007, the Cleveland Job Corps. MRN Ltd bought it in 2007 and reopened it as a DoubleTree after a $22 million renovation.
