The story

The Cavalier has overlooked the Virginia Beach oceanfront since 1927 and is the last of the city’s pre-World War II beachfront hotels. Its Jeffersonian Classical Revival design and hilltop perch set it apart from other grand hotels of the Roaring Twenties. During World War II the Navy used it as a radar training school, and it reopened as a resort after the war.
