The story

Jules Henri de Sibour designed the eleven-story limestone and terra cotta hotel, which opened in 1922 on Franklin Square with meeting rooms, a dining room and the Rainbow Room cocktail lounge. Its public rooms became gathering places for union labor leaders; William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor from 1924 to 1952, lived at the Hamilton, and D.C. designated it a landmark for that labor history in 2012. The hotel says an earlier Hamilton Hotel, opened in the 1860s by Admiral Horatio Bridge in an 1851 school building, gave it its name.
