The story
Members of Salem’s Moravian congregation built the Salem Cotton Manufacturing Company mill in 1836. Francis and Henry Fries took control in 1856 and fitted it for flour milling, and the F. & H. Fries company built the adjoining Arista Mill in 1880. The buildings later served as warehouses and were slated for demolition in 1976 until Old Salem intervened. The inn opened in 1984 with 41 rooms and grew to 71 rooms in 1991.
