The story

The house was built in 1891 for William E. Breese Sr., founder of the First Bank of Asheville. Its land once ran to the Swannanoa River beside the Biltmore Estate, and Breese called it ‘Swannanoa Hill.’ Breese’s bank was the first in the city to close, on April 23, 1897. The oak-paneled foyer and turrets survive, and the house was listed on the National Register in 1980.
