The story

E. W. Grove erected the four-story, limestone-faced building in 1923 for Solomon Lipinsky’s Bon Marché department store, to designs by New York hotel architect W. L. Stoddart. When Bon Marché moved across the street in 1937, Ivey’s department store took over the building. A certified rehabilitation in 1985-86 converted it to a hotel, and the guest rooms occupy the former clothing departments.
